Affordable Housing is owned by a private landlord or a non-profit housing provider. The landlord has an Agreement with the City of Brantford that requires the landlord to keep their rents "affordable", which means the rent amounts must be at or below the amounts outlined in the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC) annual report.
Example: CMHC 2018 Market Rent Report indicates the average amount charged by a landlord for a one bedroom unit in the City of Brantford is $900.00 per month. As long as the landlord keeps the rents at or below $900.00 per month for a one-bedroom unit the unit is considered "affordable". In addition, tenants must meet household income limits which are reviewed annually.
The listings below include new construction and renovated buildings for individuals and families with annual income that is less than
$41,677.00. Most of these buildings are not owned by the City. Please call the contact listed if you are interested.
If you require a modified unit due to a physical disability, have a mental illness, or have been a victim of domestic violence, please
tell the contact person this information as special units and rates may apply.
Buildings marked with an astrix (*) have some rent-geared-to-income units. If you are interested in one of these units, please contact the City Housing Department at 519-759-3330 ext.6331, to apply for RGI Housing.
